Passing it On

Little miss came up to me late this morning with tears streaming down her cheeks.  "What's wrong, sweets?"  "Why is my hair curly?  I don't want curly hair!  I want it to be flat!"  "Well...  You have curly hair because I have curly hair."  That explanation didn't seem to help.  "Honey, I remember all too well how much I used to loathe my hair.  You might as well accept it now and move on and save yourself a lot of time and energy.  Now that it is warmer and more humid out, it's gonna curl.  That's just how it is."  "I have curly hair because you have curly hair?"  "It certainly looks that way."  "Well you can take it back."  "I'll try my best."  "Was your hair always curly?"  "Yup."

"Great!" and she walks away with a disgusted look.  She'll learn ;)

You may also want to point out that all of us dull, boring STRAIGHT hair people dream about having luxurious, curly hair.

Seriously, Rani is right. I've always longed to have curly hair so inform little miss that the grass is always greener...

I remember asking just the same to my mum, but about my boring straight hair! Your daughter is really cute with her curls!

I'm just discovering your blog and I love it! I'll fave it immediately!

I used to envy my best friend because she had curly hair and mine was baby fine and just hung there and wouldn't do anything. I spent hundreds of dollars when I was younger paying someone to make my hair curly.

I can completely sypathize with you and your daughter. I was probably in my 50's before I learned to work with and not fight my curls, now wouldn't have it any other way. If you can find a Lorraine Massey trained stylist, you can really give your style a boost. Not crazy about her DevaCurl products, but some of the techniques are great.

But, the real reason I was on your blog was Hermoine's Everyday Socks pattern - I am having some trouble turning the heel. I keep ending up with excess stitches on one side and out of stitches to decrease on the other. Is there a reason for this or am I doing something wrong?
