First Snow of the Season = Snow Minion Time!

Yesterday the majority of Iowa (and a healthy chunk of the Midwest) were visited by Winter Storm Bella.  Naturally the weathermen were overly excited about having something to talk about and the grocery stores were inundated by droves of individuals that equate snow with the end of times, but that's neither here nor there.

The first snow of the season means something different to me...  It means the Snow Minions will be out to play :)

It wasn't too long ago when the Snow Minions looked like this.

As the seasons have changed, so have the minions. I took these pictures of the Snow Minions this morning.

As always, they love to frolic around in the snow and their confidence has grown steadily throughout the years which means that their early tentative play has evolved into something a little more daring at times. Today the minions put in a little work before heading out to play - the driveway and sidewalks needed clearing. After a brief warm-up period indoors, I spotted the Snow Minions entering their playground, sled in hand. The elder Snow Minion was having fun pulling the younger Snow Minion around the yard.

The younger Snow Minion took a brief break to create a snow angel.

The snow that fell yesterday and overnight was thick and heavy but had changed by morning to a lighter non-packing weight. While this isn't the best for a snowball fight, the Snow Minions found other ways to use the snow in fun ways.

"Look at this big chunk." "Cool, let me slice it in half." Snow Ninjas!

I stood back and watched them play, snapping pictures now and again before my hands got too chilly.  While they were dressed for play, I was not.

Snow Minions

Last week our area was blessed by a healthy snowfall and then a mini-warm up which creates the best packing snow - before it all melts that is.  Keeping this in mind, I was out and about in search of the ever-elusive Snow Minion duo that I have been keeping tabs on these past few years.  At first I thought I was searching in vain but then they showed up.

My how they've changed since last year.

The eldest Snow Minion began to create a snowman immediately.  It was hard work.

He stuck with it though and after a few finishing touches he had made a new friend.

The younger Snow Minion was a bit miffed in the beginning that her snowman was not coming along quite as quickly as her brother's.

A little perseverance (and a little help from their Father) and she, too, had a new friend.

Once their friends were made, the Snow Minions retreated to their thrones for a bit of a rest before starting in on the snow war.

The eldest Minion was the first to pick a fight with their Father. The younger Snow Minion was content to snooze a bit longer.

I was trying to keep my distance as to not upset the minions - and to not get hit by the flying snow. They must be getting more used my presence though for both seemed comfortable enough to show me their finds (aka: potential snow missiles).

It did not take long for the younger Snow Minion to grow a little cocky once the snow started to fly.

Soon though, their game changed into one where their Father would toss snow high into the air so they could take turns catching it. Not all attempts were successful.

In my excitement, I must have gotten too close for the younger Snow Minion's liking.

Then, in a blink of an eye, it was play time as usual once again.
